No, this is not a write-up about the postal department or courier companies. This is how the Marketing Guru, Jagdeep Kapoor classifies salesmen into four categories. Here we go.
- The Postman: He takes messages from the company to the customer and vice versa. He does not contribute to demand generation or sales growth.
- The Delivery Boy: He asks the customer what he requires, and delivers the stocks or services required by the customer. He does not suggest the customer to buy more.
- Traditional Saleman: He sells but works in an ad-hoc manner; he does not follow any systems and in that process destroys discipline in the company.
- The Professional: He not only sells products and services but also follows the systems set by the company. He
- understands the expectation of the customers
- has full knowledge of the products or services
- understands competition
- is aggressive but polite
- develops relationship with the customer
- gets the purchase order
